My name is Bunny Eaton.
I live in Hickory, North Carolina, but I work all over Western NC.
I have roots in both Charlotte and Boone, and I have art vending machines all over the state, so I travel a fair bit due to my work. Despite this, Hickory remains a grounding place for me—it's beautiful here, and I have a close-knit community of friends.
A worked in art education for a few years before my business took off. Towards the end, I felt like I didn't have enough time in the day to do it all, and both of my jobs suffered. I quit teaching in August of 2023 to pursue an art career full time. Then my life really took off! I miss my students all the time, but we stay in contact through social media and I probably talk to at least one of them every single day.
In the past two years, I've taught myself how to use a CNC machine as well as a laser cutter. Occasionally I do vendor events where I sell the things I make. I use the laser cutter to make "buncatchers" (suncatchers), and I paint tiny (4x4") paintings using stencils and spray paint.
Currently, I am shifting my focus away from producing art objects and dedicating more time to the development of my own work. I absolutely love to paint. I mostly work in oils, but I've been using acrylics more and more recently! I don't have a set style quite yet, but my work is heavily influenced by the vivid and often surreal nature of my dreams.
I have a complex, and sometimes perilous, dream world. There are specific architectural motifs and recurring characters that appear only in these spaces. I frequently revisit the same few locations in my dreams, and while some dreams are recurring, other times I have brand new experiences there. Still, the setting is always familiar. My dreams are always unsettling, and occasionally quite melancholy, although I don't always want to convey those negative feelings in my paintings.
In addition to my dream work, I have recently been exploring isometric perspectives in my paintings. Isometric art really appeals to me. It's complex, meticulous, and mathematical. The ability to view a scene from multiple angles allows for an intriguing exploration of perspective and illusion. As I continue painting and uploading work on here, I'm sure you'll be able to see the patterns and themes that weave through my work.
I love talking about art more than anything, so please reach out if you have any questions, or would like to learn more about what I do!
